Greenkeeping scholar turns to teaching Friday 03 Jul, 2009 02:00:00
Katie Walls, a former greenkeeping scholar for golf's governing body the R and A, has taken up a new teaching post at the institution where she gradated from a few years ago.

It is hoped her role at Myerscough College will help develop the next generation of UK greenkeepers.

Ms Walls wrote a 139-page dissertation called Issues of Sustainability on Golf Courses in the UK and Ireland during her time at the college - a document that is now used by the R and A's Golf Course Management Department and Committee.

The R and A's director of golf course management Steve Isaac said: 'Katie is an excellent example of the programme's potential.'

It is good news that there are young graduates 'who are committed to safeguarding the future of the game as it adapts to changing circumstances', he added.

The R and A provides best practice guidance on all aspects of golf course management, aiming to grow the game in a commercially and environmentally sustainable way.
