Social networking is a phenomenon sweeping around the globe, making the world a smaller place - and it would seem the potential of the medium has not been ignored by the golfing community.

American golfer Stewart Cink is one of the professionals who uses Twitter, a website that allows people to update their fan-base about the latest developments in their lives.

One of his most recent updates revealed how he came across a golf ball belonging to basketball legend Michael Jordan during a practice round at Bethpage Black, New York this week.

The iconic sports star, who used to star for the Chicago Bulls, played at the course in the US Open Challenge last week.

Cink posted a picture of the said ball - which has a Jordan logo on it - on Twitter with the caption: 'Who could've lost this ball in the weeds at Bethpage last week? Found this Nike in weeds near 18 green.'

The golfer, who represented the US in last year's Ryder Cup at Valhalla, told Newsday that he feels like he has connected with his fans since joining the social networking world.
