Dane wins Joburg Open
Monday 12 Jan, 2009 10:26:05
Danish player Anders Hansen won the Joburg Open by one shot to kick-start his European Tour Race to Dubai campaign.
The 38-year-old beat Andrew McLardy after finishing 15 under par following four days of play at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club in the South African capital.
Scotland's David Drysdale - who had led the tournament at the halfway stage on Friday evening - ended up in third, while Danny Willet, Charl Schwartzel and Tyrone van Aswegen made up the top six.
After the competition, Hansen told the Associated Press: 'I played really nice on the front side there hitting a lot of good shots so that was very good.'
Despite, the Scandinavian's individual success story, it was home favourite and two-time Major winner Retief Goosen who excited the crowds with an impressive albatross on the 18th hole of his final round.
Next up for the European Tour is the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship, which gets underway later this week.
