4 key facts about Callaway Golf’s Big Bertha Driver
The word is out…Big Bertha is back!
Available now in american golf stores and at americangolf.co.uk, the recent return of the Big Bertha driver has many golfers reaching for their bags in anticipation of getting to grips with Bertha once again – only this time she’s got a few new tweaks under the hood.
Here’s a comprehensive rundown of 4 crucial facts golfers should know about Callaway Golf’s Big Bertha driver. Enjoy.
1. "Bertha Long"
Big Bertha is a Total Performance Driver built with the technology to maximise a player’s distance and features new adjustable perimeter weighting with 20% higher MOI. As well as this, there’s also a Hyper Speed Face that is lighter and hotter – increasing golf ball speed right across the face; hence the term “Bertha Long.”
2. Its a “Total Performance Driver”
Total Performance Driver’s offer a balance of speed and control; they are designed to assist players from a broader range of skill sets. Golf professionals including Pat Perez, Gary Woodland and Jim Furyk are confirmed users of this driver type and it also works well for amateurs or those who are relatively new to the game. Callaway Golf has deigned their Total Performance Driver with greater emphasis on forgiveness and performance when tackling off-centre hits, thus providing advanced adjustability and optimised trajectory for more players.
3. Big Bertha’s Adjustable Perimeter Weighting and Hyper Speed Face
Big Bertha benefits from its APW slide; an instrumental cog in the Callaway gears which gives the driver its high MOI and far wider range of Draw, Fade and bias options. The higher MOI helps retain golf ball speed and accuracy on off-centre hits, resulting in an extremely lightweight and robust face that helps deliver more golf ball speed where players need it most and often.
4. Game-Changing Features
First there’s the Advanced Adjustable Hosel, which is used for adjustability, and Forged Composite (located in the crown). The Advanced Adjustable Hosel found in Big Bertha’s allows golfers to independently adjust loft and lie angle to create more golf ball speed for better distances.
There are four different loft angles (down -1° up to +2°) to optimise launch angle and backspin. As well as this it is also possible to choose two different lie angles, a ‘D’ for Draw or ‘N’ for Neutral as this helps with direction.
When teamed together these all provide eight unique combinations that help golfers optimise their distance and dispersion. The hosel technology also achieves changes in loft and/or lie without the need to rotate the shaft (and the shaft graphics) about its axis between settings.
The Forged Composite is a high-strength, lightweight composite material that allows players to multiple forms of adjustability while keeping the head weight under 200g and the swing weight at D2. Big Bertha is extremely easy to swing.
