Charley Hull wins first European Tour title in Morocco
Teenage sensation Charley Hull won her first Ladies European Tour title when she clinched the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco.
The 17-year-old bested formidable opposition in the form of French golfer Gwladys Nocera in a stern play-off, eventually overcoming her to lift the trophy.
Hull surged back from five strokes behind to card a closing round of 62 – tied on 15 under with Nocera – before holing from four feet for the birdie on the first extra hole to win the tournament.
Speaking to BBC Sport after the game, a delighted Hull proclaimed: "I never backed down and I got there. I'm really happy.”
On her overall game, Hull said: "I shot nine under today which is pretty good and I thought I had it on the last. It just missed and then making birdie in the playoff to win it, my hands were shaking like mad.”
She added: "I got my first win while I'm still 17. I'm 18 next week, so I'm really happy."
The victory was made all the sweeter for Hull as she began her professional career at the same event last year, giving a sense of coming full circle before she moves into adulthood.
