Maiden Victory for Good Guy Rose

Justin Rose enliven a nation by clinching his maiden Major victory at the US Open in gripping fashion.

Six-time runner-up Phil Mickelson bore down on the world number five, who refused to be beaten this time around, and won by two shots.

Rose is the first Englishman to win a Major since Nick Faldo achieved the feat in 1996 and it couldn’t have been done by a more deserving player. Following his win, Rose looked to the sky with tears in his eyes and admitted later that he did it in remembrance of his father and long-time mentor Ken, who died of leukaemia in 2002. It was the perfect way to sign off on an even which has been quite outstanding and exciting from start to finish.
