Rose Finishes Second Bottom in SPOTY Vote
There was much excitement with the announcement that Justin Rose had been shortlisted for the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year award 2013, but any hope of a golfer winning the award quickly crumbled when it was revealed Rose only received 1% of the votes, leaving him second-bottom in the ten person list.
Andy Murray took the spoils with 56% of the overall vote thanks to his historic Wimbledon victory, the first for a Briton in 77 years.
Runner-up was Wales and British & Irish Lions rugby player Leigh Halfpenny, with jockey AP McCoy coming in third.
There was little doubt that Murray would be the likely winner last night, but it’s still a bitter pill to swallow seeing Rose finish second from bottom with only 1% of the vote after becoming the first Englishman in 43 years to win the US Open.
