The Royal Liverpool Golf Club Gets Walker Cup For Its Birthday

The Royal Liverpool Golf Club will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2019 when it will stage the biennial Amateur showdown the Walker Cup.

The face-off between the junior Great Britain and Ireland side and the US hasn’t been staged at the famous Merseyside links course since 1983, when an American side led by Jay Sigel triumphed by 13 and a half points to 10 and a ½.

The club is looking forward to welcoming the prestigious tournament back to the North-West although the famous Hoy Lake course won’t have to wait to long for world class golf as it hosts next year’s British Open.

With Royal Lytham having also played host to last year’s Open Championship, it appears that Liverpudlian golf is going through something of a boom. Hopefully some local kids can be inspired by next year's festivities and play themselves into the Walker Cup in their back yard.
