Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley ruled out of PGA Championship
European Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley has been ruled out of next week’s US PGA Championship at Valhalla after failing to overcome a shoulder injury which has plagued his game all year.
McGinley had a scan at the beginning of the month that revealed inflammation and swelling – meaning the Irishman will miss the season’s final major in Kentucky, although he will still travel to Louisville to honour his commentary and pundit commitments with Sky Sports.
"The scan showed that I really needed to rest my shoulder for a couple of months. It's a pity, because I would have loved to have teed it up at Valhalla," the 47-year-old told the BBC.
"But I assessed the situation over the past couple of weeks during my family holiday and I think this is the sensible decision."
