Stenson withdraws after arrival of third child
The European Tour’s flagship event in China is reeling after being informed that Henrik Stenson has withdrawn following the birth of his third child.
The $7million BMW Masters, which starts this Thursday, was already suffering from the blow that World No.1 Rory McIlroy would not be attending, and this latest development will have done little to give the organisers much to smile about.
However, things likely couldn’t be sweeter for Stenson as he and wife Emma welcome baby Alice into the world, after she gave birth on Sunday in Orlando, Florida. And the Swede, who is third in the Race to Dubai standings, took the understandable decision to remain in the States with his family.
Stenson is expected to travel to Shanghai for next week’s World Golf Championships HSBC Champions tournament at Sheshan Golf Club after enjoying some quality time with his other two children, wife and baby.
"No3 has arrived!!" Stenson posted on his Facebook page along with a picture of him holding the baby, adding: "Alice was born Sunday afternoon! Mommy did great! Lisa and Karl seems to be pretty happy with the new addition."
From everyone here at american golf, we extend our congratulations to Henrik, Emma and the rest of the Stenson family.
