Kapalua course 'looking great'Thursday 08 Jan, 2009 10:22:56
The Mercedes-Benz Championship gets the new PGA Tour season underway today, with course representatives claiming the venue is in an ideal condition.

Kapalua's Plantation Course in Hawaii will provide the setting for the tournament and the PGA head professional at the club Scott Carroll thinks the greens and fairways are 'looking great'.

In an interview with PGA.com, Mr Carroll revealed that the staff at Kapalua have worked hard to ensure the course is ready for some of the best players in the world.

'The trade winds came through and have dried the course nicely, so we are definitely ready to offer a great test,' he explained. 'Hit it straight, you have some good chances to score.'

However, if players miss the fairway, then they are apparently in for 'a real challenge'.

Vijay Singh, Ernie Els and Anthony Kim are among the favourites to win the season opener, which tees off this morning.
