Kaymer breaks course record at Le Golf NationalFriday 03 Jul, 2009 09:06:58
German player Martin Kaymer equalled the course record at Le Golf National in Paris yesterday to take a commanding lead at the Open de Paris ALSTOM.

The 24-year-old, who was named as a back-up squad member for Nick Faldo's European Ryder Cup team last year, carded a nine-under-par 62 to put his name in the record books.

Five players finished the opening round two shots behind and they will be looking to put pressure on Kaymer during today's action.

Peter Hanson, John Bickerton, Rafa Echenique, Thongchai Jaidee and Scott Strange make up the chasing pack, while last week's BMW International Open champion Nick Dougherty is only one stroke further back.

Two-time Open Championship winner and current US PGA Championship title holder Padraig Harrington will need to put in a strong display today to avoid missing another cut - he ended day one on one over par, alongside players such as England's Ian Poulter.
