Ozaki leads Asia to victoryMonday 12 Jan, 2009 10:24:29
Despite the European team containing a number of globally recognisable names, they were unable to beat unheralded Asia in the weekend's Royal Trophy in Thailand.

Instead, Joe Ozaki was able to lead the host continent to victory in the competition for the first time in its history.

Three days of play at the Amata Spring Country Club near Bangkok resulted in a 10-6 triumph for Ozaki's men.

Commenting afterwards, the captain claimed that he could not be prouder of his eight players.

'Our teamwork was great and I knew we would win because of that. I would have been too sad if we had lost - this win means a lot to me,' said Ozaki.

Asia took control of proceedings on day one when they took a 3-1 lead after the opening foursomes.

Paul Lawrie and Soren Hansen beat Japan's Ryo Ishikawa and Toru Taniguchi in the first match, but the host continent rallied to win all the other matches on Friday, which gave them the momentum for the rest of the weekend.
