Seve gets in touch
Thursday 08 Jan, 2009 10:22:02
The thoughts of Spanish golfing legend Seve Ballesteros are with the European Royal Trophy team, according to a message sent by the 51-year-old.
During the introduction day for the competition yesterday, Ballesteros's nephew Ivan read a letter from the five-time Major winner in which he revealed his hopes that the event can help improve Asian golf.
Ballesteros was due to captain the European side that will compete at the Amata Spring Country Club this weekend, but ended up in hospital at the end of 2008 when it was discovered he had a brain tumour.
The Spaniard, who retired from playing one year ago, is now recovering at home after successful operations on the problem, and has handed the reigns over to close friend and countryman Jose Maria Olazabal.
'I will keep an eye on the event as I watch it on television here in Spain,' explained Ballesteros. 'I hope you all enjoy the event.'
