Veteran javelin thrower practices with golf ballsMonday 28 Jul, 2008 10:25:55
Javelin thrower Roald Bradstock, who is nicknamed the Olympic Picasso due to his dual life as an athlete and artist, has revealed that golf plays a part in his training routine.

In an interview with the Observer Sport Monthly, the 46-year-old revealed that he throws golf balls to help increase his arm speed.

Back in 1985, when Bradstock was between Olympic Games, he was apparently able to throw them 200 yards.

Nowadays, he can launch the little white things closer to 170 yards, according to the publication.

Bradstock, who represented Great Britain in the 1984 and 1988 Olympics in Los Angeles and Seoul respectively, is now a US citizen, recently taking part in the country's trials for this year's Beijing Games.

He came 16th out of 24 after throwing close to 70 metres. However, he made his mark by wearing colourful vests that he had designed himself.

It is art he now hopes to focus his attention on after missing out on Beijing.
