Wood gets European Tour chanceChris Wood will be playing on the European Tour in 2009 after finishing among the top 32 in the qualifying school in Spain.

The Englishman, who ended up fifth as an amateur at the Open Championship in the summer as Padraig Harrington retained the title, carded 15 under par after the six rounds in Girona.

A number of the qualifiers were British, including England's Danny Willett, Gary Clark and John Mellor, and Scotland's Andrew Coltart, Chris Doak, David Drysdale and Callum MaCaulay.

However, it was Swedish player Oskar Henningsson who won the event - and he did do in record-breaking circumstances.

The Scandinavian became the first player to make it through stage one and two of the qualifying school and then win the final.

'To be the first guy to win coming through all three stages is a great achievement and it will give me a lot of confidence going into the new season,' said the 23-year-old.
