Hazeltine National Golf Club: Ryder Cup 2016

Designed by Robert Trent Jones the Par 72 course has become only one of two golf clubs in the US to have hosted every premier Championship the USGA & the PGA of America offer.

  • Yardage: 442
  • Female Handicap: 7
  • Male Handicap: 7

  • Interesting Fact: an accurate approach to the green is necessary as the distinctive tiers can easily be the difference between a birdie or a 3 putt.

Hole 2

  • Par: 4
  • Yardage: 425

  • Interesting Fact: the bunkers that you’ll find on this hole were only added in 2008, in preparation for the 2009 US PGA Championship.

  • Interesting Fact: drives on this hole will have to be accurate to avoid the bunkers & rough that line the fairway.

  • Interesting Fact: in the ’91 US Open Championship Fuzzy Zoeller & John Inman each aced this hole.

  • Interesting Fact: a new teeing ground has added about 40 yards to this hole, and is a favourite amongst Hazeltine members.

  • Interesting Fact:this hole has remained relatively unchanged since the opening of Hazeltine National in 1962.

  • Interesting Fact: this is the shortest Par 5 at Hazeltine National.

Hole 8

  • Interesting Fact: the most successful strategy on this hole is to aim for par. Those who play aggressively tend to find themselves punished by the water and sand encircled small green.

  • Interesting Fact: one of the most difficult driving holes at Hazeltine National this hole was made more difficult by pushing the fairway bunkers on either side closer to the green.

  • Interesting Fact: players will have to carefully judge their approach here, with the hole plunging down towards Hazeltine Lake.

  • Interesting Fact: an eagle on this hole in 2002 proved pivotal for Richard Beem’s victory at the 2002 US PGA Championship.

  • Interesting Fact: a new tee has added 50 yards to this hole, making what was thought to one of the hardest at Hazeltine even more daunting.

  • Interesting Fact: with a pond to the left, trees to the right and bunkers to the front and right the 13th hole provides no respite from the previous tricky 12th hole.

  • Interesting Fact: Billy Capser called this one of the greatest short par 4’s in golf.
