AG News: Rose reclaims #1 ranking after Turkish Open win
Justin Rose soared back to the top of the world rankings after edging out Haotong Li in a thrilling finish at the Turkish Airlines Open.
Ben Martin was seeking – and got – a first win on the PGA Tour this weekend in the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open after using his Titleist Scotty Cameron putter to bring his faltering game to life and leave previous leader Kevin Streelman cursing his luck.
Streelman had surged ahead during the final round at TPC Summerlin, but was dragged back once Martin began to show why he’s such a dab hand with a Titleist club.
Martin landed a three-foot tap-in for birdie on the par-4 15th before his approach from 196 yards on the par-5 16th found green. But he was still a good 46 feet and five inches away, which made his eagle even more special as he took a one-shot lead.
There was little Streelman could do other than watch and hope Martin would be unable to finish, although that never really looked very likely. Needing just two putts at the last from 19 feet, Martin and his heel-shafted GoLo Tour holed one final putt to secure victory in the finest of fashions.
