It’s all go for January after the R&A and USGA published their finalised Rules of Golf. So what’s coming in? Steve Carroll outlines the changes.
Billingham mother & daughter qualify for National Ladies Golf Final
Local mother and daughter Carol and Alice Jones, both talented golfers from Billingham Golf Club, have made it through to the National Grand Final of the American Golf Ladies Championship after a tough qualifying competition at Hexham Golf Club. The pair will now take their places at Ryder Cup venue The Belfry on 9th & 10th September to battle it out over the Brabazon Course for the title of best Ladies Pair in the U.K.
In a closely fought contest, the pair held onto victory by just one point over Heworth golfers Susan Handley and Margaret Tindale, with home club golfers Jennifer Herrmann and Paula Forster qualifying in third place. Holding their nerve over the final stretch, this dynamic mother and daughter team head off to the American Golf National Finals with a useful victory under pressure in the bag.
“After the success of our 9 Hole and Junior Championships last year, we added the Ladies Championship for 2016,” comments Daniel Gathercole Head of Marketing at American Golf. “We’ve been delighted with the amount of Ladies taking part and look forward to welcoming all the qualifiers to the Belfry for a wonderful weekend of golf that will end with the crowning of our first ever Ladies Champions.”
Entry to all of the American Golf Championships, including the American Golf Ladies Championship, is free and is part of the nationwide retailer’s drive to promote the game of golf and get more people out playing golf more often.
