AG News: Rose reclaims #1 ranking after Turkish Open win
Justin Rose soared back to the top of the world rankings after edging out Haotong Li in a thrilling finish at the Turkish Airlines Open.
Callaway Golf has been named the definitive leader of golf clubs in the 2016 Golf Digest Hot List. The brand swept the board, earning the most golf medals and being awarded a massive haul of 5-star performance ratings.
Callaway has the largest R&D team in golf right now and it showed as the company wowed with innovations such as Face Cup Technology in irons and fairway woods. Callaway submitted 18 products and the Hot List panel awarded golf medals for every single one of them, a massive feat to achieve.
And the winner’s are…
The Callaway Golf XR16/Pro, Great Big Bertha and Big Bertha Alpha 816 Double Black Diamond all received the highest possible awards, being rated 5 out 5 stars in performance.
With a score of 14.5 out of a possible 15 in the performance category, the Hot List awarded Callaway high marks for its XR 16 Fairway Wood – with Golf Digest calling it “(A) driver in sheep’s clothing” thanks to its Face Cup technology.
Both the Callaway Apex and XR OS hybrids earned a perfect 5 star performance rating, and 5 stars for look/sound/feel.
Callaway Apex and XR irons easily won out here and were the only game-improvement irons to earn 5 stars for performance. Both the New Apex irons and the XR irons feature Face Cup technology.
One guess what the stunning New Apex Pro irons scored in the performance category (it’s five). This also might be a good time to remind you that Callaway is the No. 1 iron brand in golf.
One panellist said of XR OS (which also has Face Cup technology), said: “The ball absolutely explodes off the face.” Somewhere, Callaway’s head of R&D, Dr. Alan Hocknell, must be smiling.
The 5 star innovation score for MD3 Milled comes from progressive groove optimization. Callaway wasn’t kidding when it said you can get up and down from everywhere!
Two putters entered, and two won 5-stars – the White Hot RX and Odyssey Works. One tester said the new White Hot RX is “buttery soft, but you still feel like it has power and control” and another tester said Odyssey Works “gave me complete confidence I was lined up correctly.”
Here is a great comment from one of the Hot List testers on White Hot RX Mallets: “Off-center hits felt like center hits. The forgiveness on this one really stands out.”
