AG News: Rose reclaims #1 ranking after Turkish Open win
Justin Rose soared back to the top of the world rankings after edging out Haotong Li in a thrilling finish at the Turkish Airlines Open.
Matt Fitzpatrick is the first ever Englishman to win the US Amateur Championship title since 1911 after overcoming Australian opponent Oliver Goss in fine fashion.
The 18-year-old led for the majority of the 36-hole play-off at The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts, showing just why he’s being pointed out by many as the next big thing.
He had already earned an exemption into the 2014 Open by reaching the final, so long as he remains an amateur golfer.
Fitzpatrick will also be given a place at next year’s Open Royal Liverpool and a likely invite to the Masters at Augusta should he perform to this standard consistently.
Fitzpatrick is a Sheffield-based golfer who achieved another huge success when he won a Silver Medal as top amateur at the Open at Muirfield. For this event he also had his 14-year-old brother Alex doing the excellent job of caddying for him.
