It’s all go for January after the R&A and USGA published their finalised Rules of Golf. So what’s coming in? Steve Carroll outlines the changes.
McIlroy eyes up the FedEx Cup
The penultimate play off event kicks off this week, the BMW Championship, and McIlroy is keen to add the the FedEx Cup to his list of achievements and bag the $10m bonus prize.
The FedEx Cup system is designed towards the play-off events to ensure the chase for the prize goes down to the wire. McIlroy missed out two years ago when the play-off system meant that despite winning two of the four play-off events he failed to take home the crown.
The top 70 will take to the course at Cherry Hills this week but only 30 will make it through to the Tour Championship in Atlanta, where the points list is reset.
This means that any players in the field can theoretically win. Even a win at Cherry Hills does not guarantee winning the FedEx Cup bonus, anyone in the Top 5 has a chance to win the grand prize.
McIlroy has had an outstanding summer and the current World No1 will determined to top it off with another win.
Chris Kirk is currently standing at the top of the Leaderboard after winning last week’s Deutsche Bank Championship, ousting Hunter Mahan who had taken the lead after winning The Barclays.
