Michelle Wie Appointed Youth Olympics Ambassador
Michelle Wie has been appointed Youth Olympics ambassador for the 2014 Nanjing Youth Games next year after she helped her sport win a place at the Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
The International Olympic Committee said on Monday that Wie, 24, had earned the honour thanks to the huge amount of work she put into securing golf had a place in Brazil.
Wie will be there to advise golfers during the 2014 Nanjing Youth Games alongside Olympic champions Michael Phelps and Yelena Isinbayeva, who are also Youth Olympic ambassadors.
She is hoping to compete at the 2016 Olympics when golf makes it anticipated return to the games after more than a century on the outside looking in.
Wie was part of the golf’s Olympics bidding team in 2009, and said of the games: "I went to the London Olympic Games last year and that really got me inspired.
"It got me motivated and I'm going to do everything I can. It's one of my biggest focuses, making the American team for Rio."
