Nike Golf’s Paul Casey wins KLM Open
However, the Nike athlete did more than just show up and play some attractive golf; he returned to winning ways in a scintillating display in the Netherlands to claim a first victory of the season.
The 37-year-old began the final round four adrift of the leader, but executed four birdies on the front nine to claw back the deficit – eventually reaching the turn in 32. The three-time Ryder Cup player had been in contention on Saturday when he fired a course-equalling record 62 at the Kennemer Golf and Country Club in Zanvoort.
And it was during that round where Casey seemed to throw loose the chains which have burdened his game recently and allowed glimpses of his brilliance to shine through – much to the delight of those in attendance.
Casey was a new man on the greens as he headed into the final nine holes with four consecutive pars, before unleashing a monster drive on the par-4 14th to set up a pitch to the green that led to another birdie – his 21st of the week.
This was Paul Casey at his mesmerising best, and his victory in the Netherlands was his 13th on the European Tour, with his last win coming at the 2013 Irish Open.
