Rory McIlroy's foundation to host 2015 Irish Open
Rory McIlroy’s charitable foundation has signed up to host the 2015 Irish Open on the European Tour, it has been announced.
The event is due to be held between May 28-31 at Royal County Down – known for its famous links where McIlroy made his final appearance as an amateur player in the 2007 Walker Cup.
The Rory Foundation was devised at the beginning of 2013 to raise funds for children’s charities around the world. McIlroy will be playing two roles at the tournament, one as a player and the other helping to get more world-class players to join in and develop the event’s commercial and sponsorship activities.
“Since making my debut in 2005, the Irish Open has always been a special tournament to me,” he said in a statement. “I am excited to be partnering with George O’Grady and the European Tour, especially for next year’s tournament at Royal County Down.”
