Video of the Week: Robot hits first-ever hole-in-one

Powered by National Club Golfer

We’re used to seeing raucous scenes on 16 at TPC Scottsdale. Who can forget Tiger Woods’ ace in 1997?

But ahead of the opening round of the 2016 Waste Management Phoenix Open a different kind of history was made.

A robot named LDRIC (as in ‘Eldrick’ for Tiger Woods’ real name) aced a beauty of a shot on the infamous par-3 - taking with it the title of the first-ever robot hole-in-one.

The 20,000-strong crowd showered the green in beer and celebrated as if the robot was a real person. Maybe they were too drunk to notice that it wasn’t?

What’s even more remarkable is that the shot was only the fifth LDRIC has ever hit.
