Watch: Will Wilcox ace on 17 at Sawgrass, Russell Knox meltdown

Powered by National Club Golfer

American Will Wilcox went wild as he holed the first ace on the 17th at Sawgrass since 2002.

It was 14 years since Miguel Angel Jimenez last managed the feat on the Island green during The Players Championship.

Wilcox, who shot a 59 on the tour on his way to getting a PGA Tour card, certainly enjoyed his moment.

It was a perfect wedge from 147 yards which pitch 10 ft short of the pin before rolling into the cup.

He jumped onto his caddie before sharing a few fist pumps with himself then it was high fives all-round with his playing partners.

It was the first ace on 17 during a second round of The Players.

Brad Fabel was the first to achieve the feat in 1986, and he was followed by Brian Claar (1991), Fred Couples (1997), Joey Sindelar (1999), Paul Azinger (2000) and Jimenez two years later.

Spare a thought for Russell Knox though who found the water THREE times during his third round on the way to a NINE on the famous hole.

The Scot responded with a 68 in his final round to finish in a tie for 19th on -5.
