The Open 2013: Colin Montgomerie Fails to Qualify
This year’s Open Championship will be without the influential Colin Montgomerie after a second-round 76 left him three over par in local final qualifying.
The eight-time European number one was one shot off the lead after an opening-round 69 before dropping off at Gullane. His second round lasted four and a half hours, with the legendary player finally having to concede defeat.
English duo Ben Stow and Matthew Fitzpatrick, along with Swede Oscar Floren, did qualify from Gullane and will now look forward to the event.
At Dunbar Grant Forrest, the Scottish amateur, reached his first Open by finishing ahead of fellow qualifiers Shiv Kapur and John Wade.
The Open Championship takes place at Muirfield from 18-21 July.
