LPGA Tour: Stacy Lewis wins Walmart Arkansas Championship
World No.1 Stacy Lewis shot a flawless final round 65 to win the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship by a single shot on Sunday in impressive fashion.
Lewis showed her mettle by finishing 12-under for the three-round event at Pinnacle Country Club, which left her one ahead of the chasing pack, who in reality never really looked a serious threat to her challenge.
The win was tinged with emotion for Lewis, who attended the local University of Arkansas where she became a four-time All-American, and after hitting three birdies in her final four holes to claim the prestigious trophy, the golfer allowed herself to celebrate in the victory.
Despite competing for and winning her 11th career title and third this season, Lewis admitted she felt raddled with nervousness when trying to win in front of her passionate home crowd.
"It's so hard to play here," said Lewis. "I can tell you I was more nervous today than I was at the US Open last week. That's just how much this place means to me.
"When I first came here to school, I was extremely shy, and I think I've definitely grown out of that over the years. I've just found that the more I interact with fans, it makes me more relaxed, and enjoying it more is what I'm trying to do."
"This place just means so much to me. So, to win here, it's just crazy how far I've come. It's just really, really special to win here."
