Europe’s big hitters set for American Golf Long Drive showdown

Thousands of golfers across the UK took part in qualifying, using Callaway’s industry-leading Rogue Driver to record distances in the state-of-the-art indoor facilities found at every American Golf store. A series of knock-out competitions, to be televised on Sky Sports, will see champions crowned in three categories: women, men over 45 men and men under 45.
Matt Bacon, Head of Events at American Golf said: “Although we’ve seen golfers from all over the world fly in to take part, this competition is all about the huge numbers of loyal American Golf customers who come back year after year to compete in store.
“Having Callaway as sponsor has been a huge draw this year and the mixture of talent we have has raised the bar for the competition.”
Teenage sensation Olivia Rael-Brook lines up as one of the favourites in the women’s competition. The 18-year-old student led qualifying with a mammoth 291-yard drive. In the men’s event Dave Evans from Bedford topped the pile with a monstrous 419-yard effort.
Competitors tee-off from 8am this Thursday at Chester Racecourse with the semi-finals scheduled for 2.20pm and finals beginning at 6.15pm. Entrance is free and car parking costs £5.
