It’s all go for January after the R&A and USGA published their finalised Rules of Golf. So what’s coming in? Steve Carroll outlines the changes.
Big Names Absent from Hawaii
Tiger Woods, Henrik Srenson, Phil Mickelson and Justin Rose have all ruled themselves out of competing in the 2014 Tournament of Champions in Hawaii, leaving Adam Scott the highest-ranking player in the competition .
The Hawaii tournament is no longer the precursor which marks the beginning of the PGA Tour schedule, and the event will be without several of its biggest draws.
Tiger Woods last competed at Kapalua in 2005, while Phil Mickelson last appeared in 2001. It shows reluctance from the American pair to compete in the tournament, with Graeme McDowell also deciding to pass over the opportunity to play. However, defending champion Dustin Johnson will make a return to Hawaii as he looks to retain his title.
Confirmed names for the Hawaiian event include Brandt Snedeker, Martin Laird, Webb Simpson, Matt Kuchar, and of course 29-year-old Johnson.
The Hyundai Tournament of Champions returns to The Plantation Course at Kapalua in Maui, Hawaii from January 2-6, 2014.
